![]() He argues that being cannot be created or destroyed, and that it is not composed of parts. Parmenides then presents his own theory of being, which holds that being is a single, indivisible, and eternal substance. Socrates attempts to answer this challenge by suggesting that the Forms are the causes of things in the material world, and that they are known through reason. Parmenides argues that if the Forms are separate from the material world, then they cannot have any impact on the material world, and they cannot be known. ![]() Parmenides challenges Socrates’ theory by asking him to explain how the Forms are related to the material world. Socrates then presents his own theory of Forms, which holds that there is a separate, eternal, and unchanging world of Forms or Ideas, which are the true objects of knowledge, and that the material world is a mere reflection or copy of this world. Socrates expresses his admiration for Parmenides’ work, and Parmenides encourages Socrates to engage in philosophical inquiry. ![]() The dialogue begins with Socrates traveling to Athens to meet Parmenides and his student Zeno. ![]() In this essay, I will provide an overview of the major themes and arguments of the Parmenides. In this dialogue, Socrates attempts to understand the nature of reality, the relationship between ideas and the material world, and the nature of being. Plato’s Parmenides is a dialogue in which Socrates engages in a philosophical conversation with the renowned philosopher Parmenides. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Tech companies sometimes scrambled to fix problems - often after hackers or academic researchers revealed them publicly - but few companies were willing to undertake the costly overhauls necessary to make their systems significantly more secure against future attacks. I don't even remember why the friends finally agreed to come over to his house after such a long time of avoiding it. I remember about three things that happened during that visit and then the rest of the book is lost on me. The reader finds out just how well lived in Sloth's house is when his friends come for a visit and a meal. Sloth is ok with these surroundings, but when he hears of a friend's birthday party being planned just below his window, he wonders why his friends never want to spend time at his house. Sloth lives in a tree in a comfortable, well lived in, yet cluttered home. The story didn't stick with me before and it really isn't sticking with me now. In order to penetrate the Undying temple and reach the tech and information hidden within, the two must decode the ancient race’s secrets and survive their traps. Mia and Jules’ different reasons for smuggling themselves onto Gaia put them immediately at odds, but after escaping a dangerous confrontation with other scavvers, they form a fragile alliance. To be fair, I started reading this immediately after finishing Claudia Rankine's Just Us: An American Conversation. Instead, it reads like a bunch of diary entries, and not the kind of deep, reflective diary entries I might find interesting. I thought this was going to be a book about the pandemic but it's not. I equally don't give a shit about hearing how you grab a macchiato when you have two minutes to spare. I don't give a shit about your neighbour's dog and I don't give a shit about how you and your masseuse chat about holidays. Unfortunately this book is the equivalent of small talk. I don't have energy to be around people a lot and so when I am, I want to use that energy to have deep and meaningful conversations. I hate parties where everyone has to stand around gibbering nonsense. I thought a book of essays about the pandemic would be something everyone can relate to, and I'd get a taste of Ms. When I saw Intimations, I decided it was time to remedy that. Zadie Smith's books have come across my radar many times but I'd never read one. Did I read the same book as everyone else? Because I totally don't get all the four and five star reviews I'm seeing. ![]() ![]() But in this song there are only two sides to things… there’s reality and I guess what you might call fantasy.
